Southern Green Beans with Bacon

  • 1/3 cup white onion diced
  • 2 slices bacon chunks
  • 12 ounces green beans frozen
  • 1 pat butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper


  • Dice up about 1/4 of a white onion (enough for 1/3 cup).
  • Cut up 2 slices of bacon into small chunks.
  • Place medium skillet on stove top on low heat and melt 1 pat of butter.
  • Add bacon chunks and stir for 1 or 2 minutes.
  • Toss in diced onion and cook until transparent.
  • Add bag of frozen green beans and stir until beans begin to thaw.
  • Top green beans with enough water to cover them.
  • Add salt and pepper and stir thoroughly.
  • Bring water to a boil and then reduce heat to a simmer.
  • Cook for 15-20 minutes or until tender.
