Icy grape Nehis where the ultimate summer drink for generations of kids — in the south anyway. Lots of little convenience stores kept thick glass bottles of cokes (the Texas word that means “soda” or “pop”) in a big, old aluminum washtub filled with ice at the front of the store. Just putting my hand in there and pulling out a dripping bottle was enough to send a chill down my body, still tingling from the 100 degree heat outside. There was always a bottle opener somewhere by the register and, after I handed over my 25 cents, I’d pop the top off that drink and watch as a layer of slushy ice formed on top.
It was heaven, I’m telling ya.
The slushy, fizzy Nehi would invariably give me brain freeze but it was SO worth it.
Well, this low carb grape Nehi cocktail is a nod to that memory. It doesn’t contain an ounce of Nehi but the flavor shines through anyway. Gin and grape vodka make it an adult drink but you could leave the alcohol out and make it kid friendly, too. Either way it’s really good stuff!
My daughter gave me some thick recycled glass cups for my birthday and I love them! Oddly enough they replicate the feel of those old glass bottles perfectly. I love the way they feel in my hands but they do have a green tinge to them so the drink doesn’t look as purple in the pictures as it really is. SO pretty!

These recycled glass highball glasses are by the same company as my glasses. I just love the feel of them! They are made in Italy of recycled green glass and hold 16 ounces. That’s a lot of cocktail! You can probably find grape water enhancer at your grocery store but if not here’s a grape water enhancer from Amazon.

What is grape water enhancer? Where do you buy it?
Marye
You can get it on Amazon or in most grocery stores. It’ s a concentrated, carb free flavoring you squirt into water.
